If Tina Fey and Jerry Seinfeld had a baby, Molly Rafferty would run away from it because babies are disgusting. Molly (just barely) graduated from Columbia College Chicago's Fiction Writing program and has studied comedy writing and performance at iO, Second City, and FemCom. Her past performances include Reading Under the Influence, Essay Fiesta, Miss Spoken, and the Chicago Women's Funny Festival. An ornery educator by day, Molly spends her nights making up songs about her dog, Brick. Follow her on Tumblr at MollyRaffertyWrites!

Haiku for a New Year

At the 112th episode of Tuesday Funk, cohost Andrew Huff read a couple of his signature topical haiku.

Last year I promised
no haiku about Donald.
Now all bets are off.

Polar Plunge canceled
due to record-breaking cold.
Keep your clothes on, kids.

Dry air and knit caps
mean styling is pointless and
bad hair de rigeur.

January 2018 Debrief

>January 2 was the coldest night for Tuesday Funk in quite awhile, but that didn't stop a full house from showing up for Chicago's favorite eclectic reading series. And they were rewarded with some fantastic live lit.

Marcus Emanuel led off with a true story about what might have been a selkie. Next, Emma Terhaar read a short essay about making croissants and a couple of poems. Then Cameron McGill knocked us back with a set of spellbinding poetry, and we took a break to reflect and refill our drinks.

When we returned, cohost Andrew Huff shared a couple of his trademark seasonal haiku, and then Emily Belden read an essay about reconsidering her policy on forgiveness. Lastly, Jac Jemc told a tale of a couple looking for new friends to double date with.

Join us in the upstairs lounge at Hopleaf on Tuesday, February 6 when we'll feature readings by Molly Rafferty, Rachel Hinton, Molly Dumbleton, Lindsay Porter and Dave Reidy. Hope to see you there!

It's the first of the year, which means it's time for Tuesday Funk! Fulfill your new year's resolution not to let winter beat you by joining us tonight. There will be good writing and good folks and enough booze to last through the end of the world. Cohost Eden Robins is out of town, so other-cohost Andrew Huff is on his own introducing this fantastic lineup: Cameron McGill, Emily Belden, Marcus Emanuel, Emma Terhaar and Jac Jemc!

Our readings take place at Hopleaf Bar, 5148 N. Clark St. in Chicago. We get started promptly at 7:30 pm in the upstairs lounge. Arrive early if you want a seat -- but no earlier than 7:00 pm. Our readings are free, but only those 21 and over will be admitted. No food can be brought up from the restaurant. See you there!
