After a long hiatus, Tuesday Funk is finally back in 2024! Join us for the return of Chicago's favorite eclectic monthly reading series in the upstairs lounge at Hopleaf in Andersonville. We'll have readings by Gint Aras, Kay Daly, Jasmine Davila, Hannah Gamble and Juan Martinez. Andrew Huff and Eden Robins cohost.

As in the beforetimes, admission to Tuesday Funk is free, but you must be 21 to attend. Doors open at 7pm sharp (tables tend to fill up fast, so don't be late!) and the show will start at 7:30pm. Andrew Huff has been a PR professional, a journalist, the editor and publisher of Gapers Block, a professional blogger for a ghost hunter "reality" show, and host of 20x2 Chicago, a show in which 20 interesting people have two minutes each to answer one question. He's also cohost of the live lit show Tuesday Funk, where he's normally known for his topical haiku. He lives in Chicago's West Ridge neighborhood with his wife and three cats.

Robbie Q. Telfer is a writer, performer, and teaching artist in Chicago. His work has appeared in hundreds of places and yet he still feels empty inside. He’s been an individual finalist at the National Poetry Slam and has a collection of poetry from Write Bloody Publishing. He runs a bi-weekly writing workshop webinar called More of a Comment Than a Question and he works for The Morton Arboretum and Friends of Illinois Nature Preserves trying to help the wild spaces of Illinois.

William Harold Holbrook is a writer, teacher, and homemaker originally from Painesville, Ohio who now lives in Evanston. He is the creator and curator of The Old-Time Moan, an online gallery of orphaned and found photographs collected from flea markets and antique stores across the Midwest. While the prerecorded shows on YouTube have been fun, they are quite a bit more work than our live show, both for the cohosts and the readers, and they're no replacement for being together with all our friends and fans in the upstairs lounge at Hopleaf. So, sadly, until we can safely do the show in person again, Tuesday Funk is going on hiatus.

Hopefully that day will come soon. In the meantime, please be safe, wear a mask, and vote.

Tuesday Funk on the first of September once again happened on our YouTube page, but that didn't slow down our readers. Maggie Kast started us off with a portion of a novella in her new book, Side By Side But Never Face To Face. Next Veronica Arreola read an essay about what she means when she says she's a "professional feminist." Then Keidra Chaney shared a story about nurturing and hate in gardening.

After a brief intermission, Kathleen Rooney read an excerpt of her new novel, Cher Ami and Major Whittlesey. Rayshauna Gray closed out our evening with an essay about the history of the Roseland neighborhood and her family's history in it. You can watch the whole show below.
